A couple of days ago I went out for a camping trip with The Astronomy club at high tech high and the SDAA. on this trip I learned more about how to set up a telescope by leveling it and pointing it in the right direction for the tracking to work correctly, I also learned how to set the weight at the right distance so the telescope is balanced correctly and is able to move efficiently with The tracker.
On the trip I also learned more about astro photography with Gabriel. I learned that to get one great picture of the night sky it actually involves multiple layers of the same frame . Each of these pictures that will be stacked in the end has to be taken very carefully, to get the right picture you have to use a longer exposure at a high ISO otherwise the frame will be very dark. after leaving the camera in spot that will not be disturbed with 30 second exposures, for an entire hour, gabe showed me how the end product will look when they are all layered and it was a really new experience that I think I want to try soon.
Going on this trip was a nice experience because I was around a group of many new people but was able to get along and learn a lot from them. Everyone in the SDAA was also very friendly and had no trouble with me looking tthough their telescope and teaching me new things about different stars and planets. Next year I really want to take more advantage of these trips and the club and learn more about space and astro photography. A goal I have is to try and take some amazing pictures of my own and share them with people in the club.
