The goal of this project was to create an ice that appears to be on fire. This experiment was a process of multiple reactions causing the ice to appear to be on fire. At first this project seemed to to be tricky but turned out to be simple and fun in the end. I expected the project to work if the ratio of each material used was right.
For this project to be done we had to use 3 materials. The materials were:
1) Ice
2) Calcium carbide
3) A container
The idea behind this project was that the ice would melt into water and drip into the calcium carbide causing the calcium carbonate to react with the water and create the gas called acetylene . This gas is highly flammable and is what actually ignites causing the ice to appear to be on fire.
